Greetings UA Parks & Rec is honored to serve the community, with residents of all ages enjoying our parks, programs and events throughout the seasons. While we take great pride in the quality of our exsiting programs and services, we are always seeking ways to improve, and in this issue I’m pleased to introduce several recent initiatives focused on how we can best serve the community. A key element in guiding our planning for parks, facilities, programs and operations is a department comprehensive plan. A citywide Master Plan process is underway that will establish a collaborative, community-driven vision to guide the City’s growth, investment, and decision-making in the years ahead. Developed alongside updates to the Parks & Recreation Comprehensive Plan and Urban Forestry strategy, the Master Plan will identify priorities, shape future land use, and outline clear strategies to strengthen neighborhoods, enhance quality of life, and support a resilient future. The updated Parks & Recreation Comprehensive Plan will focus specifically on our department’s services and development of park land, while the Urban Forestry Master Plan will guide our forestry operations, including street trees. Resident involvement is essential in providing input and priorities as recommendations are framed to align future services. See page 4 for ways to get involved and please share your opinions. STAY UA is being launched as the unified source for services and resources to assist residents, with a specific focus for older adults as they navigate aging in our community. Approximately 800 people completed our older adults survey this spring, providing valuable insight. The Older Adult Resource Fair on September 22 (see page 78) will follow up on the feedback and will feature a variety of vendors and representatives with information and services to help you stay safe, healthy, and independent as you age. Learn about insurance options, in-home therapy services, senior living communities, healthy lifestyle programs, and much more.

This Fall, Kiwanis Club of Northwest Columbus hands over the reins for its youth recreational soccer program to our department. We are excited by the opportunity to continue the Kiwanis legacy of youth soccer for children in Upper Arlington, Grandview Heights and Marble Cliff. See page 11 for information on this program. Fall is a great time for outdoor events, and the Labor Day Arts Festival, on Monday, September 7, will soon be here, showcasing artists and performers, as our largest community gathering event. Additional seasonal highlights include Fall Fest on October 4, offering coveted seasonal traditions, and Jazz at the Barn on October 8. This issue of the Activity Guide features the many indoor and outdoor activities and facilities available for everyone to enjoy. In the last year alone, our community participated in over 1,200 programs at the Bob Crane Community Center, plus numerous outdoor sessions. Visit the Enrich section for the upcoming fall offerings. PLEASE NOTE: the Bob Crane Community Center will be closed beginning Tuesday, September 8 and reopening on Wednesday, September 16. This closure allows time for annual maintenance, deep cleaning and employee training as we head toward the indoor season. I hope you take time to enjoy some of our offerings for recreation and leisure experiences.

Fall Park Project Updates
Northam Park This summer marked a significant milestone for Northam Park with the renovation of its east athletic fields, representing the final phase of the park’s overall improvement plan. The project involved a complete regrading of the fields, along with the installation of a new irrigation system and underdrains to enhance their functionality. Additionally, the baseball diamonds were entirely rebuilt, providing safer and more user-friendly spaces for athletes. Although the renovations primarily targeted athletic uses, the upgrades will also benefit other activities in the park, such as the annual Fourth of July celebration. While construction on the fields has been completed, they will remain closed to scheduled activities for the next year to allow the new turf grass to establish properly. The City eagerly anticipates resuming athletic events on the fields in The upcoming renovation of Fancyburg Park is moving forward following City Council’s approval of the park’s Master Plan in Fall 2025. Over the summer, the City initiated the development of a detailed design for the project, which included a series of public engagement events to gather more specific input from the community. This fall, the consultant Design Team—led by the Edge Group— will incorporate feedback from these engagement sessions and begin developing the necessary drawings and specifications for construction. The design phase is expected to be completed by the end of the year, with on-site work scheduled to commence in Spring 2027. Guided by the vision outlined in the Master Plan, the project will identify priority items to be included in the base scope as well as potential additions and future enhancements. the fall of 2027. Fancyburg Park
Park Bridges In 2022, the City partnered with a consultant to assess all pedestrian bridges located within its parks. Although the evaluation did not reveal any immediate issues, the resulting report recommended replacing the bridges in Miller Park and Smith Nature Park. Acting on these recommendations, the City collaborated with the engineering firm MS Consultants to design new replacement bridges and subsequently contracted Axis Civil Construction to carry out the installations. The replacement work is scheduled for October and November this fall, with the Smith Nature Park bridge work commencing after the annual Golden Bear Scare event hosted by the Upper Arlington Civic Association. The new bridges will feature a corten steel frame paired with durable ipe wood blanks, promising to be wonderful enhancements to the parks. These additions are expected to improve the nature trails and encourage visitors to further explore the area. Bob Crane Community Center Annual Closure This past April marked the one-year anniversary of the Bob Crane Community Center’s operation. From September 8 to 15, the Community Center will undergo its first annual closure, a practice that will be scheduled for early fall each year. The closure provides a dedicated period for maintenance, deep cleaning, and staff training, ensuring the facility is well-prepared for the busy indoor season ahead. Although members may miss visiting the Community Center during this week, this critical downtime helps staff prepare and ultimately enhances the experience for all users.

Your Input Wanted! Take Our Parks & Recreation Comprehensive Plan Survey Available July 17-August 7, 2026 After achieving a majority of the goals from the 2018 Parks & Recreation Comprehensive Plan, it’s time to look to a new future of opportunities. The City of Upper Arlington’s Master Plan Update includes a next generation roadmap for UA Parks & Rec that will guide long-term investments to maintain and improve our community’s parks, public trails, recreation facilities, and programs. To help the Master Plan team ensure the updated Parks & Recreation Comprehensive Plan meets the changing needs of our community, an online survey focused on parks and recreation programs and facilities is available from July 17-August 7. “We have accomplished so much to expand and enhance our recreation facilities, park spaces and programming,” said Parks & Recreation Director, Debbie McLaughlin, “and these accomplishments are a direct result of our last comprehensive plan. Community strategic planning works, and we can’t wait to have the new plan in place to guide our department, as we balance the ongoing operations and maintenance of existing facilities and programs with new opportunities.” “The Bob Crane Community Center is a great example of what can be achieved when residents are an integral part of a strategic planning process,” said City Manager Steve Schoeny. “From beginning to end, residents helped shape this life-changing investment in our health, wellbeing and community identity. As we prepare for the decades ahead, we want to be sure that residents continue to be involved in our planning efforts.” We invite you to take our Parks & Recreation Survey today—tell us what the next Parks & Recreation Comprehensive Plan should prioritize. The survey can be accessed using the QR code provided, or via upperarlingtonmasterplan.com . About the Master Plan Update Process Upper Arlington’s current Master Plan was developed in 2001 and most recently updated in 2013. The Parks & Recreation Comprehensive Plan was completed in 2017. Since then, the community has continued to change, with the pressures of a growing region impacting commercial reinvestment, housing and transportation demands. The City’s new Master Plan will create a shared, community-driven vision to guide Upper Arlington’s evolution in the years ahead. It will help align future land use decisions, public investments, and policies around clear priorities, with the goal of strengthening neighborhoods, protecting community character, and enhancing the quality-of-life residents value. The Parks & Recreation Comprehensive Plan update will focus on sustaining and improving the parks, programs, and facilities that residents use every day. It will establish clear goals and a long term investment strategy based on extensive public input and a careful evaluation of existing facilities, services, operations, and community needs.
Additionally, an Urban Forestry Plan will help guide future decisions related to the City’s tree canopy and natural assets.
Combined, these plans will help guide how Upper Arlington grows and invests, while preserving the character and quality of life residents care about. Additional Ways to Join the Master Plan Conversation • Master Plan Public Meeting: 6-8 pm, Wednesday, September 2, Bob Crane Community Center – join us for updates on the process and a chance to provide your input. • Upper Arlington Labor Day Arts Festival: Monday, September 7 - look for the Master Plan Community Booth and join us for conversation. • UA Farmers Market: 3-6 pm, Wednesday, September 9 – visit the UA Community Booth to chat about the Master Plan and share your thoughts. A Look Ahead to Future Survey Opportunities Your feedback is important to us, and we have a series of surveys scheduled this summer and fall to help guide decision-making on important community issues and services. These include: • Parks & Recreation Comprehensive Plan Survey – July 17-August 7 • Master Plan Survey – August 21-September 11 • Bob Crane Community Center Satisfaction Survey – September 21-October 9 • City Facilities Accessibility Survey – October Please watch for updates as each survey opens, and let us know your thoughts!

Since consolidating various older adult programs under the City’s service umbrella early in 2026, the team has been working to enhance existing programming, explore new service options, centralize and expand volunteer opportunities, and simplify the aging experience for older adults, their families and caregivers. 2026 Aging in UA Older Adults Survey Our sincere thanks to the approximately 800 community members who completed our survey in May. Some key findings to emerge include: • Remaining safely in their homes and neighborhoods is important to the vast majority of respondents. • Many older adults are worried about financial pressures, such as increasing property taxes, falling victim to scams, and medical expenses. • While most respondents find it relatively easy to find the services they need, 43% find it somewhat or very hard. • Many respondents indicated that they need help with projects around the home, such as cleaning/organizing, snow removal, yard work, and minor home repairs. These findings (and more) will help inform our enhancement of existing and development of new STAY UA services and The STAY UA team is launching an online support tool designed to help older adults find the help they need, oftentimes by connecting them with community volunteers. • Register With Us: Older adults will be able to register for free to be linked to our STAY UA support services. • Want to Volunteer? Register with us on the Volunteer section of the portal, to help older adults with various basic daily activities.
