Your Input Wanted! Take Our Parks & Recreation Comprehensive Plan Survey Available July 17-August 7, 2026 After achieving a majority of the goals from the 2018 Parks & Recreation Comprehensive Plan, it’s time to look to a new future of opportunities. The City of Upper Arlington’s Master Plan Update includes a next generation roadmap for UA Parks & Rec that will guide long-term investments to maintain and improve our community’s parks, public trails, recreation facilities, and programs. To help the Master Plan team ensure the updated Parks & Recreation Comprehensive Plan meets the changing needs of our community, an online survey focused on parks and recreation programs and facilities is available from July 17-August 7. “We have accomplished so much to expand and enhance our recreation facilities, park spaces and programming,” said Parks & Recreation Director, Debbie McLaughlin, “and these accomplishments are a direct result of our last comprehensive plan. Community strategic planning works, and we can’t wait to have the new plan in place to guide our department, as we balance the ongoing operations and maintenance of existing facilities and programs with new opportunities.” “The Bob Crane Community Center is a great example of what can be achieved when residents are an integral part of a strategic planning process,” said City Manager Steve Schoeny. “From beginning to end, residents helped shape this life-changing investment in our health, wellbeing and community identity. About the Master Plan Update Process Upper Arlington’s current Master Plan was developed in 2001 and most recently updated in 2013. The Parks & Recreation Comprehensive Plan was completed in 2017. Since then, the community has continued to change, with the pressures of a growing region impacting commercial reinvestment, housing and transportation demands. The City’s new Master Plan will create a shared, community-driven vision to guide Upper Arlington’s evolution in the years ahead. It will help align future land use decisions, public investments, and policies around clear priorities, with the goal of strengthening neighborhoods, protecting community character, and enhancing the quality-of-life residents value. The Parks & Recreation Comprehensive Plan update will focus on sustaining and improving the parks, programs, and facilities that residents use every day. It will establish clear goals and a long term investment strategy based on extensive public input and a careful evaluation of existing facilities, services, operations, and community needs.

Additionally, an Urban Forestry Plan will help guide future decisions related to the City’s tree canopy and natural assets.

Combined, these plans will help guide how Upper Arlington grows and invests, while preserving the character and quality of life residents care about.
