It was an age of recovery, of progress and finally, jackboots. It was an age of resilience as thousands endured the Stock Market Crash of 1929 and the Great Depression that followed. President Herbert Hoover couldn’t escape the albatross fate hung around his neck. We stop by and visit each year, exploring the lowlights, the highlights and everything in between. So drop your bottom, grab some city soup and let’s all get wise. Part 1 9/21-1930s overview: The decade dawned on a very sober America, torpedoed by Wall Street and filled with disappointment, angst and redemption thanks to one Frankin D. Roosevelt. 9/28-1930: In March a newly discovered planet was officially named Pluto, and a catastrophic fire kills 322 inmates at the Ohio Penitentiary. 10/5-1931: Clarece Birdseye invents frozen food, James Caney emerges as Public Enemy No. 1 and the Star Spangled Banner becomes our national anthem. 10/12-1932: Democrat Franklin D, Roosevelt handily defeats beleaguered Hoover as the nation’s new president. Down in Mississippi, a brand-new mom names her baby boy Elvis. 11/16-1936: Germany plays host to the XI Olympiad in which American Black track star Jesse Owens humiliates Adolph Hitler. 11/23-1937: FDR begins his second term in the White House and George Gershiwn dies. 11/30-1938: Benny Goodman introduces staid Carnegie Hall to jazz and Superman debuts on June 1. 12/7-1939: Ted Williams clobbers his first MLB home run in August, the Grapes of Wrath is published, and Lou Gehrig’s consecutive games streak ends at 2,130. 12/14-Looking back at the decade: The 1930s evolved as the calm before the storm. America abandoned its rampant self-indulgence of the 1920s to weather the worst of the Great Depression by resilience resolve and teamwork...solid training

Roasted Goose is served in Alsace, to commemorate a gaggle of geese who may have led the Wise Men to the stable of the child.
