Nestled in the rolling hills of Ohio, along remnants of ancient canal locks, sits a 19th-Century village that never stopped telling its story. For three days each October, that story comes alive in a way you can feel. Iron is forged by fire inside the original Blacksmith Shop. Looms turn in the Craftsman House. A canal boat moves along the towpath, pulled by draft horses beneath a canopy of autumn trees. Just as it did nearly 200 years ago. Seating tucked beside original lock stones. Shops filled with goods that connect the past and present. Restaurants where the stories are as rich as the food they serve. And, of course, apple butter. Slow-cooked, stirred by hand, and shared across generations. Enjoy the festival at your own pace for a few hours and eat lunch at your choice of restaurants or food BCCC, Level 1, Cafe & Lobby $30 R-BCCC M | $36 NR DISCOVER HISTORY IN GROVEPORT | 50+ YRS Recreation Staff Spend a day discovering history in Groveport! Take a guided tour of the Mott’s Military Museum, whose mission is sharing artifacts and recounting their history through the stories of the men and women who witnessed them firsthand while serving in the U.S. Armed Forces. Eat lunch at a local restaurant, then visit the Groveport Town Hall and Heritage Museum. The Heritage Museum displays historic artifacts and memorabilia dating back to the early 19th Century. Learn about the Ohio and Erie Canal, which opened in Groveport in 1831; the original Horse Whisperer John S. Rarey, whose unique methods as a horse trainer earned international praise; and the merger of two canal towns, Wert’s Grove and Rarey’s Port, leading to the only town in the world named Groveport. FROM MOO TO MOON | 50+ YRS Recreation Staff Start the day in Barnesville with a memorable visit to Dickinson Cattle Company. The interpretive Longhorn Ranch Tour provides close-up viewing of impressive herds of BueLingo, Texas Longhorn and African Watusi cattle. Rugged ranch buses bounce across rough Appalachian foothill pastures to go where the cattle roam-up close and personal. Pictures are welcome, and you can even hand-feed cow candy to the cattle from the bus! After your ranch adventure, enjoy a country meal at Cracker Barrel in nearby Cambridge. Then, step back in time at the John and Annie Glenn Museum with a period actor who invites you into the home like an old family friend. View John’s childhood bedroom where his dreams of aviation were born. See formal galleries like the Annie Gallery, which includes handwritten notes from her speech therapy, family artifacts such has her grandmother’s turn of the century wedding dress, and lovely gifts that she and John exchanged throughout their marriage.
