GREAT PORTRAIT PAINTERS AND THEIR SUBJECTS | 50+ YRS Jack Miller We look at five great portrait painters who lived from the sixteenth to the nineteenth century: Holbein (German), Velazquez (Spanish), Reynolds (English), Goya (Spanish) and Sargent (American). We talk about these artists’ fascinating lives, as well as the lives of their portrait subjects, especially focusing on when the lives of painter and subject intersected. In Provence the Réveillon meal ends with a 13-course dessert, symbolizing Christ and His 12 apostles. Roasted Goose is served in Alsace, to commemorate a gaggle of geese who may have led the Wise Men to the stable of the child.
