Multi-Generational STAND UP PADDLEBOARDING: ALL LEVELS ALL AGES Sarah Sutton, WPA 2/SUPYoga Certified Coach This class is designed with everyone in mind - from first time paddlers to those with lots of SUP experience. Beginners learn paddle technique, how to launch, stand, maneuver your board and how to safely navigate the waterways. Those with more experience have the option of refreshing their knowledge during the beginner lesson or taking advantage of more time on the water instead. All paddlers can enjoy exploring Griggs Reservoir. All equipment, safety gear and photos of your session provided. SUP is family friendly, but children must use their own board, and be at least 60” tall and 100 lbs. Swimming ability is required. Limited enrollment. Then, enjoy fall nature crafting and either make a leaf craft using colorful fall foliage or create mini acorn people. Staff also explain uses and benefits for fallen leaves and autumn tree droppings, beyond crafting of course! Informative and fun for all ages. Seasonal treats provided. Register each person attending, adults and children alike. Have you had problems when you tried? Composting keeps food and yard waste out of the landfill and produces a product that can greatly benefit your garden or soil. LIVING WITH WILDLIFE | 18+ YRS Rebecca Rose, Ohio Wildlife Center Many cities and suburbs in America have more wild animals living in them than at any time in the past 150 years. Ecologist Peter Alagona, author of Accidental Ecosystem writes, “The recent explosion of wildlife in American cities is one of the greatest ecological success stories since the dawn of conservation, but it happened largely by accident.” This is the fascinating story of how our cities and suburbs filled with wildlife and how we can share our neighborhoods, parks, and workplaces with a stunning array of wild creatures to the benefit of people and animals. The speaker shares information about local resources that provide humane solutions to living peacefully with wild animals. 443724 A 7-8 pm Tu 10/15 Municipal Services Center, Lower Level Meeting Room $22 R | $26 NR GUIDED FOREST BATHING | 18+ YRS Katy Oberle Shinrin-yoku (translated as “bathing in the air of the forest”) is a Japanese practice which guides you to mindfully immerse yourself in nature. Benefits can include improved physical and mental health. The practice focuses on cultivating a sense of reciprocity between you and the forest. The guide facilitates a sequence of invitations that allows you to enjoy both structure and spontaneity in your experience. The practice ends with a sharing circle and tea ceremony. 443768 A 10-11:30 am Sa 10/5 Smith Nature Park $20 R | $24 NR Older Adult VISIT COYOTE RUN STATE NATURE PRESERVE 50+ YRS Recreation Staff Enjoy the opportunity to visit Coyote Run, a property that encompasses approximately 900 acres in Pickerington and Violet Township in Fairfield County, Ohio. The private conservation project is a mixture of agricultural land and natural areas, including a working farm and 230 acres set aside as a state nature preserve, containing mature forest with several vernal pools. We learn more about the property and the conservation work being done from owner David Hague on our visit, in addition to the opportunity to go on a walk to explore the natural areas.
