With over 30 years of teaching experience, Mindy uses exercises to teach technique, color and composition. She mentors ongoing participation, this is not taught as a beginner class; however, beginners are welcome to join and participants may work on their own project. Participants register for each month. Supplies and materials are on your own. A supply list is included as an attachment with the emailed receipt. Participants may choose to get colored watercolor prints for a $5 material fee paid directly to the instructor. APRIL 4/8 - Down on the Farm: Are you in the mood for
JULY 7/1- Independence Day: Use symbols of July 4th like the fireworks and music of freedom. Illustrate what you love about America. Flags, food, people, places and firecrackers, but rather than be overwhelmed, you may use stars and stripes in a geometric form. 7/8 - American Indians and Charles Bird King: The Golden Age of the American Indians by Charles Bird King when the clothing and face painting was at its peak of creativity. Celebrate the beauty of these amazing portraits by emulation from prints. 7/15 - Ancient Artifacts to Antiques: Do you have some interesting rocks or pottery? Perhaps it is an antique. If not, you can use prints. We need to incorporate a background for it that helps it to bring forth its message to the present day. Maybe it is as simple as a faded tree in the background of a carved statue. 7/22- Humor in Art: Find a photo that makes you laugh and put it into a painting. I suggest a family member or a pet. Hopefully, it lightens their day. Do not be afraid to be colorful. 7/29 - Catch up day: Bring in the unfinished pieces to work on today. 552115 D 1-3 pm Tu 7/1-7/29 AUGUST 8/5 - Create an Illustration of a Children’s Poem: Use a child’s rhyme that lets you re-create it into an image you feel comfortable with, but do not copy it. Shift the meaning if you like. Be inspired. Make it beautiful, whether it is serious or funny. This may free you to research children art illustration more. 8/12 - Paint a Bug: Do a realist bug that you find interesting. Perhaps a spider or butterfly. Whatever bug you choose, let us learn all about it before we paint it. It is always good to know your subject. You need a leaf or petal. Perhaps a branch? 8/19 - Cubists: Find a print of Picasso or Braque and paint it in the Cubists style. It is time we loosen up a little and see what they were up to! With their 2-D and 3-D on the same surface they developed Synthetic Cubism. 8/26 - Catch up day: Bring in the unfinished pieces to work on today. 552115 E 1-3 pm Tu 8/5-8/26 BCCC, Level 2, Art Room $50 R-BCCC M | $60 NR O 5 sessions
watermelon? How about some hens and chickens growing out of a wooden barrel? Let us dream of beautiful fruit hanging from a tree. Color Wheel your subject with contrasting colors. 4/15 - Indoor Still life of Daffodils: Let’s place them in a vase and set them in a window. If you have some bring them in for us to share. See if you can see through the glass dimly or not. 4/22 - Daisy Daisy: The daisies are returning and we are ready to enjoy the various kinds. I plant to bring some prints to class but if yours are real, even better. I encourage you to place a child with them. 4/29 - Fairies Dress in Petals and Leaves: Do not be afraid of your own imagination. It can be so comforting at times. This is one way to have fun. Fairies are so much like the plants they love. Try softening the colors of the rainbow. 552115 A 1-3 pm Tu 4/8-4/29 MAY 5/6 - Boats on the Water: Turn the boat over and your boat won’t fall apart. Lift that boat up with the glow of light mirroring it in the sun. Water reflections outdoors is today’s theme. 5/13 - Grapes on the Vine: I am ready to see lush vines on the arbor. Learn to overlap with watercolor and the use of the white of the paper. Create lovely highlights and caste shadows on each grape and create a texture of roundness. Shift that light to dark as much as you can. 5/20 - Wild Flowers: Cosmos are my favorite. You choose from your prints and photos to re-create and composition for works to your purpose. Set up a composition that uses a lovely setting-merging a soft edged image against a hard edged one. 5/27 - Catch up day: Bring in the unfinished pieces to work on. 552115 B 1-3 pm Tu 5/6-5/27 JUNE 6/3 - Landscape with Bridge: I can provide examples of bridges in a landscape but prefer you use your own. We approach this from a Claude Monet perspective. Impressionism is a great time to get outdoors. 6/10 - Steps with Landscape: Find a photo of a path the leads upward and bring it to class. There are stone paths, cement staircases and wooden. Yet colors of spring are fresh and soft. 6/17- Waterfalls with Landscapes: Various types of waterfalls spring forth and provide sunlight and shadows in the water. There are reflecting images of what is above as well. Drawing before class saves you more time to paint and complete your project. 6/24 - Catch up day: Bring in the unfinished pieces to work on today. 552115 C 1-3 pm Tu 6/3-6/24 BCCC, Level 2, Art Room $40 R-BCCC M | $48 NR O 4 sessions BCCC, Level 2, Art Room $40 R-BCCC M | $48 NR O 4 sessions
