MONDAY MORNING DRAWING | 50+ YRS Mindy Newman

Mindy provides individual guidance, discussion and demonstrations. This is not taught as a beginner class; however, beginners are welcome to join this relaxed instruction. We look to modern and abstract artists to direct creative minds. Participants register for each month and supplies and materials are on their own. A supply list is included as an attachment with your emailed receipt. APRIL

JULY 7/7 - Egg Heads: Learn how smart you are by drawing the angles of lines inside of ovals to form a face. Step by step demos guide beginners. Advanced students introduce themselves to more facial expressions. No one is to worry about likenesses at this point. 7/14 - Isolated Color: Create a drawing in black and white of anything you like to draw and then in a selective way, learn to balance the page with an isolated color. It could be half and half, but then it could also be just a tiny 10%. 7/ 21 - Defying Physics: Allow two shapes to occupy the same place at the same time on a 2-d object, such a white sheet of paper. We explore overlap in art by creating distance. It can be one star type tumbling from the sky, building circle or forming a frame of a body in motion. 7/28 - Catch up day: Bring in the unfinished pieces to work on today. 552112 D 10:30 am-12:30 pm M 7/7-7/28 AUGUST 8/4 - Hair, Skin and Shapes of Heads: We learn formulas to creating those three types of portraits techniques through demonstration and experiencing it ourselves with prints to copy. 8/11 - Developing the Eye and Nose: Learn the ways of drawing realistic placements and defining details. Likeness comes later, but these simple methods give you a closer understanding as to how to capture that which is not easily caught. 8/18 - Define the Lips and Ears: Perfect your ability to find balance of size in relationship to other features while maintaining likeness. 8/25- Catching up and putting it together: This is your chance to try to place all the things you are now familiar with together. Bring a photo of yourself or someone you wish to draw. 552112 E 10:30 am-12:30 pm M 8/4-8/25 BCCC, Level 2, Art Room $40 R-BCCC M | $48 NR O 4 sessions

4/7 - Baby Farm Animals: Ducklings, chicks, lambs are our motivation. The shapes are our guide as we work from observing the photos. Soft smoke smudges and feathering with hatch lines are just a few textures you could explore. 4/14 - Daffodils: Images are symbolic of this Passion Week so I turn to daffodils. Their shapes help us in understanding the triangle, as we bend and turn it to become the beautiful thing that it is. We work the eraser as a drawing tool. 4/21 - Botanical Flowers of Spring: We look to other bulbs we plant such as the Irises. Day lilies inspire us as we focus on the contour lines of petals. The parallel lines of the veins inside the petals help us with the turn of leaves. Color pencil techniques on blue paper optional. 4/28 - Robins or Catch Up: We use various types of robin to study. Most are orange and blue-grays on a tree branch. Color pencil is preferred on light gray paper but optional graphite on white. This is an optional make up day. 552112 A 10:30 am-12:30 pm M 4/7-4/28 MAY 5/5 - Water Reflections: We use the fish of your choice, such as koi or bass, as they appear under and leaping out of water. A study in value changes of grays. Gray colored pencils, no graphite if possible. 5/12 - Drawing the Hand: We are practicing this method of hand drawing to better understand how to create realism. Seeing the overall image helps us place the details of hands as we use our own hands as the model. Your choice on supplies. 5/19 - Abstract Art with Cropping or Catch Up: Crop the section of a photo you took that excites you. Blow it up on the printer before class and dig into the details and form what some may call an abstract. This is an optional make up day. 5/26 - skip day 552112 B 10:30 am-12:30 pm M 5/5-5/19 JUNE 6/2 - Sun Drawn as a Symbol: Allow your circle to evolve into many or radiate from the center. Be inspired by ancient art for this. Bring in your thoughts and images to the table. Yellow is a difficult color to control. The balance color is purple. 6/9 - Trees of Spring: This is a prep for the next two classes. Enjoy the drawings of other artists of the past as we learn to create new ways of seeing trees. We may use sketching tables for quick sketching bark types. 6/16 & 6/23 - One Tree Only: You complete a drawing over the next two weeks. It should be filled with bark, graceful limbs and leaves. There should be shadows on the ground and mounds of grassy turf. 6/30 - Catch up day: Bring unfinished pieces to work on today. 552112 C 10:30 am-12:30 pm M 6/2-6/30 BCCC, Level 2, Art Room $40 R-BCCC M | $48 NR O 4 sessions BCCC, Level 2, Art Room $30 R-BCCC M | $36 NR O 3 sessions
