Bring gently used garments or accessories to swap, plus one cherished piece (like a tee, jeans, sweater, scarf, etc.) that could use some TLC. Shop fresh, new to you treasures while our nonprofit board members and expert stitchers guide you through simple visible mending techniques. All leftovers are collected to support our mission, so you leave with a refreshed wardrobe, new skills and the satisfaction of giving back. Learn basic knitting skills including casting on, knit and purl stitches, shaping and binding off. We cover how to correct simple mistakes and how to read a pattern. Work on a project of your choice with supervision from our experienced (and extremely patient!) instructor. Knitting needles, practice yarn and an instruction booklet included. Practice crocheting flat and in the round with guidance from our patient instructor. Hook, practice yarn, and instructions provided. FILMMAKING 101 | AGES VARY Film Playground
Lights, Camera, Action! Learn how to make movies in this entry level, hands-on experience in narrative motion picture production. Participants collaborate in the practice of all major areas of the filmmaking process: storytelling, directing, acting, cinematography, sound and editing. Classes are designed specifically for each age group. All tools and equipment for shooting and editing in-class group projects are provided. The course culminates in a “red-carpet” screening of our short films for our friends and family on Saturday, November 22 from 2:30 4:30. Whether you’re dreaming of writing a feature film, a short, or a TV pilot, this four-hour crash course introduces the fundamentals of screenwriting, from narrative structure and character development to dialogue and scene construction. Writing exercises, group discussion, and script analysis provide you with a solid foundation and the inspiration to start your own screenplay. Taught by award-winning screenwriter and filmmaker, David Burkman, a graduate of the USC School of Cinematic Arts, whose films have been on Netflix, Hulu, and at The Sundance Film Festival. No experience necessary; just bring your imagination and a willingness to write. Your experience includes a real pumpkin, a variety of succulents, preserved moss, dried flower accents and step by-step instruction. We discuss best practices for succulent care and maintenance; soil, sun requirements, watering, and propagation for healthy plants. Please note, these pumpkins are not carved so that your centerpiece can last for many months! Participants under 18 years of age should sign up with a parent/guardian; register one person per pumpkin centerpiece and note any additional attendees not creating their own arrangement at registration.
