Winter 2026 Activity Guide

YOUTH THERAPEUTIC RECREATION CAMP (ADAPTIVE & INCLUSIVE) | 7-13 YRS Recreation Staff

Our Therapeutic Rec Day Camp is designed to serve youth with special needs. This camp joins one of our traditional day camps to promote an inclusive experience while accommodating each camper’s individual needs. Campers enjoy a variety of inclusive and adaptive programs, including recreation, pool swims and field trips with our traditional campers, as well as small group therapeutic options, including guest instructors specializing in topics such as Art Therapy, Music Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation and adaptive sports. Campers must possess the ability to attend to personal care such as toileting, dressing and eating, and be able to follow general cues and instructions of staff. Campers who require additional 1:1 ongoing assistance with these tasks and campers with behavioral challenges may be asked to have an aide in attendance to promote a successful experience. A sack lunch, water bottle/drink and afternoon snack must be packed daily. Campers should be comfortable in and around water and generally visit the pool up to four times a week for a couple of hours. Our camper supervision ratio is 3:1, employing college level students (or higher) within Therapeutic Recreation, Special Education, Intervention Specialist, Adapted PE, or other related health sciences such as PT, OT and SLP. Please note: Recreation Staff do not administer medicine to campers. Special thanks to Northwest Kiwanis for their generous support of the TR Day Camp each year. No camp the week of 6/29. Please note registration is limited and operates on a first-come, first-served basis. A virtual waiting room opens five-15 minutes prior to the start of registration. The registration fee, which is charged per child, includes admission to the Upper Arlington Pools during Day Camp, a camp t-shirt and field trip expenses. All fees must be paid by the first day of camp. Reach out to Geoff Dew (gdew@uaoh.net; 614-583-5057) with any questions. You can either pay for camp in full when you register or choose installment billing. With installment billing, you link a credit card to make payments on February 15, March 15, April 15, and May 15, as well as an initial payment at the time of registration. Please note: You need to enter your credit card information twice for installment billing option, once to set up the future payments and again to process the initial payment. ADAPTIVE

Program Accommodations All our programs are open to all and inclusive to those with disabilities. If you or a family member would like to request adaptations or modifications to participate in the programs we offer, please email your request at parks@uaoh.net at least two weeks prior to a program’s start date. We utilize an Activity Modifications Form to gauge activity modification needs for our general programs and do our best to accommodate your need. Please see below for more information on our adaptive programs, which are designed specifically for individuals with disabilities. As we look to expand our adaptive program offerings, please feel free to share your thoughts and feedback with us.

INTERESTED IN LEADING A CLASS? Instructors are always in demand for UA Parks & Rec programming. The majority of programming is provided by contractual instructors who provide program proposals in advance of season planning. If you are interested in offering a program or know someone you’d like to recommend, please reach out to Eliese Kendrick, Recreation Manager at ekendrick@uaoh.net.
