More to Explore: Winter Capital Project Updates As the year draws to a close, the crews at the Bob Crane Community Center will be wrapping up the concrete structure and are scheduled to top out with structural steel early 2024. As work on the structure has advanced, the team has also made progress on the rest of the building, including the exterior envelop, which started being installed in late November. Crews are also working on the interior of the building, installing the many hangers and conduits that will be needed to facilitate the buildings mechanical systems. Also this fall, construction wrapped on the Northam West Athletic Field Renovations. The new grass has started to grow and City staff have taken over the day to-day care of the fields to get them ready for play. As a reminder, the fields will stay offline for the first year to allow adequate time for the grass to fully establish. Help us take care of this significant investment by not using the fields at this time, so that we can make sure they are in top shape when they are re-opened to the community. Finally, fall saw the completion of the design for the renovation of the Northam Tennis Complex, Park Service Building and surrounding areas. As part of the design process, City staff led an extensive community engagement effort to determine the best use of an approximately .44-acre area of the park that will be available as part of the renovation of the Tennis Complex. Based on community input and with the support of the Parks & Recreation Advisory Board, Staff recommended that the internal path system should be adjusted to provide more open space east of the Tremont Pool. It was also recommended that the remaining open space could be used for six permanent pickleball courts, which would realize an unmet recreational need for the community. City Council is scheduled to consider the results of the bid process in November, which includes the above mentioned items as bid alternates.
