Topics include washes, color mixing, resists using masking tape and fluid, texture using household products and working from photo references or sketches. VIVIAN’S WATER METHOD WITH PASTEL 18+ YRS Vivian Ripley After the introduction of various pastel strokes and applications of color, we move quickly into Vivian’s water method. The first pastel application takes into account the desired spacial and tonal effect plus color combination. Next, a soft, wide, damp brush melds the application into the desired realization. When dry, colorful pastel accents complete the work. The painterly result is one of fluidity and richness, yet can be very realistic in nature. Painters with no pastel experience may also find the technique to their liking. The instructor demonstrates and guides each student through the process. All levels. One-hour lunch break. Painting on a gesso surface provides an opportunity for experimentation, creating light values as well as vibrant clean colors. We paint “Playtime,” a charming scene of a tree and tree swing on a 10 x 20 inch canvas. You do not have to know how to paint before coming to this class! This is fun for all skill levels.
