Park Updates & Capital Improvement Projects Northam Park Tennis and Pickleball Courts Ribbon Cutting Ceremony Thursday, May 1 | 4 pm Northam Park | 1880 Northam Road
Upper Arlington Unveils First Dedicated Pickleball Courts at Northam Park Upper Arlington residents and pickleball enthusiasts have a thrilling reason to celebrate this spring: the City is opening its first dedicated pickleball courts at Northam Park. The facility will offer an engaging space for players of all skill levels to enjoy pickleball. The new courts are part of a comprehensive upgrade to Northam Park, designed to cater to the active community of Upper Arlington. Six dedicated pickleball courts will be available for public use, providing ample space for players to engage in friendly matches. The courts will be open for reservations and general use when not reserved, ensuring everyone has a chance to play. In addition to the pickleball courts, the project includes several amenities to enhance the visitor experience. The courts are conveniently located next to the new park service building, which will offer year-round restrooms. Open shelters have also been constructed near the courts to provide a shaded gathering area, perfect for socializing and taking breaks. The City will continue to offer courts lined for pickleball and tennis at Fancyburg and Thompson parks, giving players the flexibility to enjoy both sports at those locations. Plans are to add pickleball lines on the court at Sunny 95 Park when resurfaced this year. The new complex at Northam Park also features nine state-of-the-art clay tennis courts with advanced underground irrigation systems to ensure improved playability and reduced maintenance. The tennis plaza offers a shade structure and seating to watch matches and socialize alongside the Dick Kitch Memorial Tree Grove. Membership is required to use the tennis courts, and detailed information about memberships can be found in the Activity Guide on page 15.
The dedicated pickleball courts at Northam Park offer a fantastic opportunity for residents to engage in a fun and social sport suitable for all ages. Whether you are a seasoned player or a newcomer to the game, these courts provide the perfect setting to hone your skills and enjoy the outdoors. The development of the new pickleball and tennis courts at Northam Park reflects Upper Arlington’s commitment to fostering a strong sense of community and promoting healthy, active lifestyles. The City’s investment in these facilities enhances the overall quality of life in Upper Arlington. Excitement is building as the opening of the new pickleball courts approaches. The courts are set to become a popular destination for pickleball enthusiasts, offering a premier location to enjoy the game. Mark your calendars for this spring and get ready to embrace the thrill of pickleball at Upper Arlington’s newest recreational facility. We can’t wait to see you on the courts! Northam Pickleball Court Reservation Information To enhance your experience, the Northam Pickleball courts will be available for reservations from April through October, 8 am-8 pm. Reservations can be made up to seven days in advance for 60-minute time slots, with a maximum of two consecutive blocks per reservation. Courts are open for play on a first-come, first-play basis outside these hours. While reservations are encouraged, they are not required. Reservations will be completed through our website at parks.uaoh.net . The courts will remain open for play if no reservations have been made.

Northwest Kiwanis Temporary Art Installation This summer, the City of Upper Arlington will debut a temporary art installation at NW Kiwanis Park, designed by artist Marcia Armstrong. Selected through a formal process, Armstrong’s artwork will be installed as part of the City’s ongoing commitment to enriching the community through diverse art experiences. Following the 2019 Arts and Culture Master Plan, the Cultural Arts Division and Commission have established formal policies and processes for bringing public art to all areas of Upper Arlington. This project brings public art to the northern part of Upper Arlington, an area identified as lacking such installations. Marcia Armstrong is a dynamic artist whose career has
spanned a range of disciplines, from ceramics to interdisciplinary installations that merge art, science, and environmental studies. With a Bachelor of Fine Arts from The Ohio State University and additional studies in EcoArt and digital media, Armstrong’s work emphasizes the intersection of the natural world and human experience. Her installations have been showcased in venues like the Smithsonian and Renwick Galleries and more recently in naturalized spaces such as Chadwick North Arboretum. Through her art, she seeks to foster connections between people and the ecosystems that sustain them, creating works that inspire reflection and conversation. This installation aims to inspire visitors to engage with nature and art, sparking reflection and conversation. This project will celebrate the natural beauty of the community, highlight the importance of naturalized areas in the park, and educate the public on the artist’s creative process. Don’t miss this exciting addition to our vibrant arts scene!
