Bonsai can be made out of any woody plant species and for this workshop we use yews which are hardy in our area and must grow outdoors year-round. Learn the basics of bonsai care including watering and winter protection which are the two most important topics for long-term survival of bonsai in Ohio. After a brief presentation on those topics as well as on planning a design for your bonsai, we go through a wiring exercise so students can practice how wire is applied to bend branches in bonsai. Lastly, we use what we learned to prune and wire gallon-sized nursery yew bushes into beautiful bonsai. Yew bushes are provided as well as wire for bending branches. A limited amount of pruning shears are available to borrow, but students should bring their own. The class is led by Ryan Huston of Ry2Tree2 Bonsai who learned bonsai under Dan Robinson of the world famous Elandan Gardens. 443723 A 1-4 pm Sa 9/16 Sunny 95 Park, Amelita Mirolo Barn $50 R | $60 NR HOW TO SUCCEED WITH BACKYARD COMPOSTING | 18+ YRS Joanne Dole, Franklin County Master Gardener Have you wanted to try backyard composting but are not sure how to begin?
