Welcome

EXPLORE

As we head into the fall, our team is planning our typical seasonal activities, while also preparing for the opening of the Bob Crane Community Center next spring. I’m pleased to report that construction of the center and parking deck at Kingsdale is progressing on schedule, and with opening day getting closer, we already have some of our general operations plans in place that we can begin sharing with the community. Hours of Operation • Monday–Friday: 5:30 am–10 pm • Saturday and Sunday: 8 am–8 pm • Holidays: for most holidays, the facility will be open for normal or reduced hours, but will be closed for major holidays. Fee Structure When developing the fee structure, we were guided by several goals: • Keep the fee structure simple and easy to understand. • Establish pricing that is favorable to UA residents and those employed in the community. • Incentivize memberships. • Provide a framework that allows us to ease into operations and be positioned for adjustments based on usage. The resulting fees on opening day will be as follows: • Individual Monthly Membership: $35 for Residents, $70 for Non-Residents - Monthly Rate for Each Additional Person Per Household (ages 3 & older): $22 for Residents, $44 for Non-Residents. -Ages 2 & under are free • Senior Monthly Membership (ages 60 & older): $22 for Residents, $44 for Non-Residents. (We are working with SilverSneakers® and Renew Active® to determine what services may be covered and expect to provide an update in August ahead of Medicare enrollment). • Daily Admission: $10 for Residents, $20 for Non Residents (initially, Non-Residents will be limited to one daily admission).

Additional Fees • Child Watch: $6 per two-hour session for Members, $12 for Non-Members. This facility will accommodate ages 3-months up to 9-years and patrons must be on site while their child is in the Child Watch area. • E-Sports: $4 for Residents/Members, $8 for Non Residents for a 90-minute session. • Program Fees: All program fees will offer Resident and Non-Resident rates (Senior Association membership will no longer be applicable) Rental Spaces Several spaces within the facility will be available for rental, including: • Fifth Floor Event Center: Resident/Member and Non-Resident rates will be available, with pricing scaled according to peak/non-peak days and holidays. This facility can be rented in its entirety or as three smaller spaces. As an example, the rate for a Friday or Sunday rental of the entire space will be $235 per hour for Residents/Members, and $353 per hour for Non-Residents. Information with rates for all days of the week is available online. • Gymnasium: A full-court gymnasium will be available for $60 per hour for Residents/Members, and $120 per hour for Non-Residents. • Program Rooms: These spaces will be rented for $50 per hour for Residents/Members, and $100 per hour for Non-Residents. • Indoor Pool: While limited, the pool will be available for two-hour blocks, at $500 for Residents/ Members, and $1,000 for Non-Residents. • Party Room: Located a between the pool and playground, two-hour rental packages for 20 people will include just the party room (with access to the playground) at $125 for Residents/Members and $250 for Non-Residents, or the party room plus 10 admissions to the pool at $200 for Residents/ Members and $400 for Non-Residents. • E-Sports/Room: This space will be available for 2-1/2-hour blocks at $300 for Residents/Members and $600 for Non-Residents.

Actions for our Customers In planning for making use of the Community Center, customers can prepare their household account and begin to make plans for private events, holiday gifts, and potential employment. • Rec Trac Account Verification: This fall, we will be asking Residents to verify their Parks & Rec household account. Beginning August 19 – after fall program registration – all Resident customers will be asked to verify their household members and submit proof of residency by uploading documentation to their account or by stopping into our office. Resident customers must live or work in Upper Arlington. Proof of residency includes a utility bill, lease, deed, paycheck, or tax record. Any Resident households that have not been verified by November 8 will be marked as a Non-Resident and charged the Non-Resident rate until this step has been completed. We will send several reminders to help guide families through this process. If you do not have a Parks & Rec household account, you may create one and upload the necessary documentation in advance of the facility opening. Update your information at parks.uaoh.net . Please note you must login to change your documentation. • Rentals of the Event Center: UA Parks & Rec anticipates opening reservations for rentals of the Event Center later this year for dates beginning mid-year 2025, so watch for updates on opportunities for reserving this space for weddings, conferences, graduation celebrations, and more. As a pre-opening special, any rental of the 3-room event center booked in 2024 will receive a 25% discount on rental fees. • Holiday Gift cards: As the holiday season approaches, it will be possible to purchase gift cards that can be used toward memberships and programs at the Community Center. • Pre-Sales: We anticipate opening regular Community Center membership sales early in 2025 that will be effective upon opening.

• Employment: This Fall, look for various part time position opportunities, including front desk, child watch, pool, fitness areas, e-sports, building operations, and rental services. Use the QR code below for more on the Bob Crane Community Center, where you can view a presentation to City Council on this information and the presentation slides, both of which go into greater detail on the process used to determine the rates shared here. If you have any questions, please contact the department, at parks@uaoh.net . This is an exciting time for our community to enjoy parks, events, and programs while planning for the Bob Crane Community Center. I hope you take time to include us in your recreation activities.

Explore the misunderstood beauty of the Great Plains and prairies of North America through the awe-inspiring photography of Thomas Croce. Contrary to the attention that a mountain landscape may command, Croce draws attention to the subtleties of the prairie landscape. While you may not find a specific focal point, get lost in the vast expanse of land and sky and glimpse back in time when prairies covered almost one third of North America and Bison roamed freely. Today, prairies and grasslands have diminished significantly and have become the world’s most endangered ecosystem.
